How it works

  1. 01

    Fire-rated construction

Lift shaft enclosures and lobby doors are constructed to resist fire for a prescribed period. These fire-rated elements keep flames and smoke from spreading.

  2. 02

    Smoke detection and fire alarms

Connected detection systems ensure any sign of smoke or heat triggers alarms and automated responses.

  3. 03

    Emergency communication

Modern lift systems include intercoms or phones in the lift car to connect occupants with help if they are trapped during a fire.

  4. 04

    Automatic recall and shutdown

In the event of a fire alarm, lifts are programmed to return to a safe floor and remain inactive to avoid trapping passengers.

  5. 05

    Ventilation control

Smoke control and pressurisation help manage airflow around the lift shaft, minimising smoke movement throughout the building.

  6. 06

    Access for fire services

Lift shafts are designed so that fire personnel can safely access and operate lifts or manual overrides during emergency response.
